The patient I remember most clearly came to me with a lump she had been aware of for eight months. Her family thought it would resolve on its own. By the time she sat in front of me, what would have been a straightforward treatment had become significantly more complex. I am not telling you this to frighten you. I am telling you this because I have seen it happen too many times, and I believe that if people understood cancer better, fewer of them would wait that long.

I trained at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India's premier cancer centre. I hold the MRCP SCE in Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians in London. These are not credentials I list to impress. They represent the depth of training that shapes every treatment decision I make. When I plan a chemotherapy protocol, evaluate whether targeted therapy is appropriate, or assess a patient for immunotherapy, I draw on clinical experience from one of the highest-volume cancer centres in the world.

I also talk about cost, prevention and the myths that cause people to delay or refuse treatment. Because the most advanced cancer treatment in the world is useless if the patient does not come in time, or comes already defeated by fear of what treatment involves. Understanding cancer is half the treatment. I explain the other half.
